Iran is ready to resume atomic discussions with Washington as long as it is approached with "respect" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi stated only diplomacy worked, and disclosed fresh requests had been made by intermediaries to reopen talks with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran possessed no undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran was not yet able to authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit attacked atomic facilities for security reasons.

Navigating a Difficult Course

The foreign minister is treading a challenging path since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be proceeding from a situation of weakness, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had arisen stronger defensively and mentally from the coordinated strike on its atomic facilities in June.

He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium within its borders that it will always maintain" – the main reason of the deadlock in the earlier negotiations.

Previous Negotiations Abruptly Terminated

The earlier sessions of discussions between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and acrimonious termination on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, targeted Iranian nuclear sites in a 12-day war that concluded with the US president declaring the facilities had been destroyed. Afterward, Western states employed their privilege to reinstate international penalties, but Iran maintains they have not had a major impact.

Ideal Resolution Proposed

Iranian officials said they felt they had reached a "perfect agreement" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was settled an local partnership with American involvement could refine atomic fuel.
