American Forces Targeted a 'Large Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Claimed Without Providing Specifics.

Ex-President Trump has claimed that American forces hit a "major plant" in Venezuela recently. But, the ex-leader did not specify the exact purpose or site of the strike, and officials have issued no additional comment from his administration.

Vague Comments Made During a Talk Interview

"US forces just knocked out – I'm not sure if you read – they have a big plant, where the ships originate. Recently, we knocked that out. So we struck them very hard," Trump reportedly told Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Significance of a Verified Strike

If a US strike is confirmed, it would constitute the first land strike since the Pentagon began a expansion of US military presence in the Caribbean region to disrupt narco-trafficking operations that the Trump administration claims operate under the orders of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

This stated purpose of the military buildup has evolved into a quarantine aimed at hindering the country's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Footage and Official Statements

Trump has for some time warned that American military units are prepared to widen the operations by hitting objectives inside Venezuela, a tactic that would in theory require legislative authorization.

Online video circulated on social media on 24 December seemed to depict an detonation said to be from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the video or the facility has not been confirmed by third parties.

An administration official allegedly told a news network that the former president was describing a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Situation

The Caracas administration has remained silent on the incident the former president described. Additionally, there have been no independent reports from within the country about it.

The deployment of US military in the area – a posture certain officials have termed a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the most expansive maritime enforcement action of Trump's presidency.

Administration officials have stopped short from describing the action as a full blockade, but have confirmed that about 15,000 personnel are stationed across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, F-35 aircraft, and Coast Guard cutters to enforce current economic sanctions.
